The festive season is almost upon us and we’ll all be making plans to celebrate, relax, and give gifts like candy. How you do this will depend on your location, situation, tastes, preferences, and stage in life. Some of us have our own little traditions that we like to partake in with friends and loved ones, whilst some of us like to try something new.
Regardless of how you plan to spend the holiday season, there is a very good chance that you’ll be playing some games during the festive period. Whether they be on your own or as a group at a party, they’re a form of entertainment like no other. Compared to movies and TV shows, they are infinitely more interactive, a factor that is a large part of their appeal.
So if you’re thinking of playing video games this Christmas, here are some of the titles that will be top of the charts in 2024.
Blackjack
Card games are always a firm favourite at Christmas. Whether you’re taking a trip to a casino at the end of your work Christmas party, pulling out a deck after dinner, or playing online from your smartphone, it’s a favourite festive pastime of many.
Of all the card games, you’ll struggle to find one more popular than blackjack. The game has been around for centuries and has evolved a lot as it’s travelled around the world. The modern game we know today evolved in Las Vegas after it made it to the US from Europe and the USA has re-exported it back around the world.
Internet casinos now offer a range of different ways to play blackjack online, including several variants like Premium, High Roller, and Classic, as well as proprietary games from various platforms.
With the ability to play on almost any internet-enabled device and from anywhere with an internet connection, blackjack will remain a firm favourite again amongst players during Christmas 2024.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
You can tell the holiday season has begun because Activision has released a new Call of Duty title. This first-person shooter has been around for two decades now with the annual release schedule beginning from the second installment back in 2005.
This year’s Call of Duty release is the work of Treyarch and Raven Software, the same duo of development studios that were behind the 2020 release of Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War.
If you’re familiar with the franchise, then Black Ops 6 will be just like riding a bike. You’ll find many of the maps and game modes you love plus a healthy mix of new content. The progress mechanics in multiplayer mode remain consistent with previous releases and its single-player campaign mode is a welcome addition that brings a lot of fun and excitement to the title.
Considering the general industry move towards more online play, especially for first-person shooters, the single-player functionality in Black Ops 6 is very in-depth.
With so many people receiving the new Call of Duty game as a gift during the holiday season, you can expect the online multiplayer lobbies to be packed, making it one of the most popular titles of Christmas 2024.
EA Sports FC 25
Formerly released under the FIFA branding, EA Sports FC 25 is the latest video game release for the world’s most popular sports. It is the 32nd instalment from EA Sports and the second since it divorced the football world governing body.
As we see every year, EA Sports FC 25 includes updates to team sheets, new kits, and the position of clubs within the football pyramid. However, this is not just a cosmetic update. Whilst FC 24 was a transition year for EA Sports, FC 25 includes several new features that focus on improving gameplay.
FC IQ is an overhaul of the tactical system, giving players more control over team strategies and includes more modern formations, set pieces, and tactics seen on real-world pitches. It also includes better AI for computer-controlled players and improvements to goalkeeper mechanics, as well as clearer distinctions for the roles of players to create the most realistic football video game ever made.
Just like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, EA Sports FC 25 will be a popular present this Christmas so you can expect to find plenty of competition online if you’re thinking of playing.
